School Survival Skills For students entering Grades 4-6 Tuesdays 5:15pm - 6:15pm
This program introduces how to use different school resources for strengthening academic and study skills. Students will use dictionaries, thesauruses, and other nonfiction tools for locating information easily and learning basic study skills to help them survive the daily challenges of school. During each class period, in addition to learning the skill outlined for each week, students will learn new study skills each week and practice identifying word parts to help learn new vocabulary words.
Week 1	• Dictionary skills
Week 2	• Parts of Speech
Week 3	• Using a thesaurus
Week 4	• Components of a super sentence
Week 5	• Using text features to help locate information easily
Week 6	• Map skills
Week 7	• Using context clues to identify the meanings of unfamiliar words
Week 8	• Using reference books to help you with your schoolwork
