Emergent Readers Course Outline Grades 1-2 (R.L. 10-16)

Grades 1-2: R.L. 10-16: Mondays 4:00pm - 5:00pm or Wednesdays 5:20pm - 6:20pm
Session A:

Week 1

Sum It Up Academic Enrichment Programs

  • Identifying patterns in words and tackling tricky words
  • Making predictions/ changing predictions
  • Identifying story elements
  • Constructing a written response

Week 2

  • Introduce word keys
  • Identifying patterns in words and tackling tricky words
  • Making connections
  • Identifying character feelings
  • Constructing a written response

Week 3

  • Introduce word keys
  • Identifying patterns in words and tackling tricky words
  • Making connections
  • Identifying character traits
  • Constructing a written response

Week 4

  • Introduce word keys
  • Identifying patterns in words and tackling tricky words
  • Reviewing the difference between fiction and non-fiction
  • Sequencing events
  • Identifying the main idea
  • Constructing a written response
Session B:

Week 5

Week 6

As a weekly homework assignment, students will be asked to practice reading strategies that are learned throughout the lessons.
