The Problem Solver Course Outline Grades 3-4: Tuesdays 5:20pm - 6:20pm In this class, students will learn a variety of strategies for understanding, solving, and responding to word problems.
Week 1	• How to read a question • Evaluating model responses • Identifying key vocabulary
Week 2	• Choosing a strategy • One step equations
Week 3	• Evaluating parts of a written response • Using numbers to show the thought process
Week 4	• Multi-step problems
Week 5	• A closer look at the work backwards, guess & check, and make a table or chart strategies.
Week 6	• A closer look at the make it simpler, use logical reasoning, and draw a picture strategies.
Week 7	• A closer look at the make a list, look for patterns, and act it out strategies
Week 8	• Putting it all together
